ITU-AGON, LAGOS(NIGERIA)
Project: ITU-AGON
Adopted By:
Date: February 14 2006

Itu-AgonThe village of Itu-Agon is situated on an island in the Lagos Lagoon. The village lacks running water, electricity, sanitation and other basic essential services.

My team (Thompson Ayodele and Thomas Adedayo) and I first visited the village and two others on November 10, 2006.  We picked Itu-Agon for our Malaria-Free Zone project. The village was to be sprayed and the villagers provided with insecticide-treated bed nets and anti-malarial drugs. The village was sprayed on February 10 and the anti-malarial supplies purchased. February 14 was set as the delivery date.

We bundled ourselves into a canoe and began the trip to the village.

A bevy of village women in a canoe, singing and waving the bed nets they have received, escorted us to the village, where we received a warm welcome.
